WTA Communications Manager (St. Petersburg, FL, USA)

Summary: Operating from both the office and the road at professional tennis tournaments, the Communications Manager is responsible for international press relations and player appearances surrounding tournaments on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour schedule by performing the following:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:• Represents Tour to on-site (covering) media outlets, responds to questions about players and Tour, facilitates interview requests and provides statistical data. Compiles Tour-related statistical information from previous week's tournament(s) and distributes to all major press outlets. Responds to all press inquiries and requests for player interviews, statistics, results and information.• Liaises with Tournament Directors to coordinate player media and promotional activities and advises and coordinates these requests with players and their representatives.• Handles all on-site media interview requests and assists in fulfilling promotional and sponsor-related requests for players.• Coordinates all mandatory post-match interviews as well as one-on-one interviews; advises players on scope/content of upcoming interviews.• Facilitates advance media and promotional activities for upcoming tournaments (ie. advance media interviews, promotional spots, autograph sessions, and press conferences, etc.)• Responds to, analyzes, prints, distributes media requests for statistcal data, bios, rankings, tournament history, and other reports.• Writes and distributes timely press releases.• Updates existing media contact databases.• Proactively develops, researches and pitches off-sports and tennis media story angles.• Collects daily press clippings and electronic news videos for Tour archives.• Compiles significant news items (both on and off-court varieties) for use in Tour newsletter and website.• Contributes to one or more of the following projects: Notes & Netcords newsletter, Tour/Player Statistics, Media Guide, Website Content, Attendance Statistics, Getty Images.

Education/Experience/Competencies Required:• University degree (BA/BS) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or equivalent;• Three to five years of previous public relations experience; experience in sports public relations/marketing/journalism preferred;• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;• Excellent interpersonal skills/team-oriented;• Creative writing ability;• Knowledge of media relations and practices;• Tennis knowledge desirable;• Multi-lingual desirable;• Computer skills (word processing, publishing).• Must travel up to 50% to domestic and international destinations.

Shine Tennis Academy is expanding. After eight (8) years of working with mainly Japanese and South Korean live-in (Boarding) students, we are now enrolling local, national and international juniors who are looking for elite training without the elite price of some other academies. Full and part-time Summer Camp positions available; year round employment for the right individual(s). Ideal candidate would be an established teaching professional with a small following of junior students. College players at the 5.0+ level are also encouraged to apply. Camp counselors do not need to be PTR or USPTA certified. However, full-time and part-time professional staff must be certified. Lifeguard certification would be a big plus. Compensation will depend on experience and typically ranges from $15/hr. - $30/hr. but could be higher for a Certified Instructor/Professional with a following. Racquet stringing, light court maintenance and Pro Shop hours may also be available. Summer Camp runs from June 8 - August 14.
